Cardiac Rehabilitation Program

Your Recovery Begins With Us

Cardiac Rehabilitation programs are designed to help you build up your heart muscle and learn healthy heart habits. Our Cardiac Rehab services are  intended to help patients return to a healthy and enjoyable lifestyle. Grant Memorial Hospital’s Cardiac Rehabilitation program is a complete plan to provide a structured and professionally monitored exercise plan, along with education and support.

“Heart attack is the leading cause of death in America. Each year, heart disease results in approximately 500,000 deaths in the United States.” – American Heart Association

Cardiac Rehabilitation (Phase II)

After stabilizing from heart surgery, a heart attack or other treatment, you are eligible to join our outpatient Cardiac Rehab program. When you join our program, the Cardiac Rehab team develops a custom fitness program based on your individual condition. You will be monitored by continuous electrocardiogram (EKG) telemetry for you and your heart’s safety as you continue to build strength and stamina and recondition your heart.

The goals of Phase II Cardiac Rehab are:

  • Gradually reach an exercise level you are comfortable with and can perform on your own.
  • Identify your risk factors and promote changes in lifestyle.
  • Provide education about heart disease and it’s risk factors.
  • Provide emotional support needed during recovery.

In Phase II, your monitored exercise routine in the Cardiac Rehab Unit will be under the supervision of a registered nurse, exercise physiologist and respiratory therapist. Our facility offers treadmills, arm ergometers and NuSteps. Your family may attend all education classes with you.

Cardiac Rehabilitation (Wellness Phase)

Our Wellness Phase allows you to continue your exercise after you have completed Phase II. This program is also open to those who have not yet had a heart attack or heart intervention, but have risk factors that may lead to the development of heart disease. The Wellness Phase of Cardiac Rehab offers
exercise and education supervised by a registered nurse, exercise physiologist and respiratory therapist.

Who is Eligible?

The Phase II program is for those who have suffered a heart attack, bypass surgery, angioplasty, stent placement, valve replacement, heart transplant, congestive heart failure or angina. You must have a referral from your doctor for both Phase II and the Wellness Phase.

Cost and How to Get More Information

Almost all medical insurance companies and Medicare cover the cost of those eligible for Phase II Cardiac Rehabilitation. Our Wellness Phase, however, is not covered by medical insurance, but is offered at a minimal fee. Please remember you will not be denied based on your ability to pay.
