Total Joint Replacement Class

Learn more about your upcoming joint replacement surgery with staff that will be a part of your care team. Classes are held every 2nd and 4th Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Grant Memorial Hospital. A nurse will contact you to schedule your upcoming class prior to your surgery date.

Grant Memorial Hospital requires all patients that are scheduled for a total hip or knee replacement to attend a free information and education class to better prepare you for your upcoming surgery. This class is offered to answer all your questions and concerns and to help you feel more comfortable with your hospital stay. A free guide to surgery will be provided. During this class, you will be meeting with the following hospital staff:

  • Nursing
    • What to expect prior to, during and post-surgery
    • Anesthesia
    • Pain management
    • Incisional care
    • Complete pre-op paperwork
    • Verify insurance coverage
    • Review surgery checklists
  • Physical Therapy/Occupational Therapy
    • Home preparation prior to surgery
    • Rehab protocol following surgery
    • Goals for discharge
    • Rehab following discharge
    • Activity expectations following surgery
  • Social Services
    • Discharge planning from hospital to home
    • Medical equipment that may be needed
    • Follow up rehab options
