This is a non-invasive, less expensive alternative to a complete overnight sleep study. The patient is fitted with a small wrist oximeter that is to be worn at night (at least 4 hours for best results). It tests for oxygen levels and heart rate. Test is typically ordered for the following conditions:
- Suspected sleep apnea
- Poor sleeping patterns
- Adequacy of current oxygen
- Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy
- Bi-level positive airway pressure (BIPAP) therapy
- Assess baseline breathing for further testing
- Qualify for home oxygen
