The Mission of Grant Memorial Hospital Auxiliary
Grant Memorial Hospital Auxiliary’s purpose is to support the Hospital and its patients by funding special projects, promoting education, and providing public awareness to the community.
History of Grant Memorial Hospital Auxiliary
When the hospital was built in the late 1950s, the original Grant Memorial Auxiliary was organized. Important programs for that early auxiliary included:
- Candy Stripers for teen volunteers
- Beauty Shop
- Annual Hospital Smorgasbord
- Student Scholarships
- Volunteers for Activities
The Auxiliary dissolved, but it was resurrected in 2005. The Gift Shop was opened in 2007. Funds from it and other activities funded purchases and projects including:
- Digital diabetic scales
- Geriatric chairs
- Exterior benches
- Operating Room blanket warmers
- Flooring in the front lobby and medical lab
- Roll-a-way bed
- Books for the Pediatric Office
- Paint for the Family Grief Room
- New-natal venous trans-illuminator
Current Grant Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Activities
- Annual Presentation of two scholarships:
- Robert L. Harman Scholarship – $1,000
- Auxiliary Scholarship – $500
- (Applicants are graduating seniors from Grant, Hardy and Pendleton counties who plan to pursue a medical career)
- Catered Scholarship dinner which funds the scholarships
- Book Fair/Jewelry Show fund-raisers
- Bake Sales/Chocolate Sale
- Newspaper articles
- Equipment donated to the hospital
- Enthusiastic promotion of community support for the hospital Cookbook published in 2012
Steps to Becoming a Member
- See any Auxiliary officer or member
- Pay the annual $5 dues
- Decide whether to be an active or inactive member (active members regularly attend meetings and volunteer for projects; inactive members serve by paying the annual dues and donating items)
- Begin supporting GMH through community involvement
