Every year, we identify costs associated with Health Professions Education, our Health Saturday program, cash and in kind donations, the use of our facility space for community based programs, and volunteer time. These costs represent our community benefit support.
GMH’s support to our local communities was $1.257 million dollars for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2020, and $1.547 million for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2019. These dollars do not include the value of free or discounted health care services, nor do these amounts include the value of health care services written-off as bad debt.
To help provide some support to our community benefit programs, GMH participates in the 340b Pharmacy Discount Program. Savings from this program are to be used to further the mission of the hospital, to offset costs of existing community benefit offerings, or to develop new programs that benefit the health and well-being of our communities served.
GMH’s savings under this program was $427,000 during fiscal year 2020 and $372,000 during fiscal year 2019. These savings were used to help offset costs of our Healthy Saturday program and to support Health Professions Education Programs.
